Ignite Hope. Give a Chance for Life. This fundraising event, Helping Lavinia to Save Her Life is organized to raise the funds needed for an emergency surgery that is critical for Lavi’s life. The amount of 17,500 EURO or approximately 25,000 CAD represents the financial burden of emergency surgery to be performed in Romania due to the rapid worsening of Lavinia's medical condition. The intervention is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 in a private hospital in Brasov, Romania - St. Constantin Hospital. Lavinia is currently in Romania, still grieving from the passing of her dad due to COVID-19, and together with her mom are not prepared to overcome the high costs of the surgery. Oncologists and surgeons in Canada and Romania advised against travelling from Romania to Canada. Your donation can save Lavinia's life. Lavinia-Anca Hoff is a dear friend to many of us, Romanians and Canadians, and now is going through the most difficult time of her life. Lavinia's birthday is coming soon, on May 26. Instead of planning for her 45-year birthday celebration, Lavinia is fighting for her life to win another battle with cancer. Lavinia went through colon cancer surgery in 2019 in Canada and managed a good recovery. She was stable and moved on with her life. She even returned to school following her dream to learn about Indigenous cultures and become a social worker. She just finished the Winter semester with A+. In early April, Lavinia had to fly to Romania to see her sick dad who unfortunately passed away due to COVID-19 on his name day, April 23. Shortly after this tragic event, Lavinia's health suddenly started to deteriorate from one day to another. Multiple CT scans, MRI, visits to ER, and investigations revealed a terrible diagnostic: sub-occlusive syndrome, peritoneal carcinomatosis, and meta-ovarian Krukenberg tumor. The findings require immediate sophisticated intervention, including Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC). The oncologists in Canada as well as the surgeons consulted in Romania advised Lavinia against travelling to Canada. So, she must go through this emergency surgery in Romania. The cost of the intervention estimated to about 17,500 EURO (approx. 25,000 CAD), is also including 8-day hospitalization. Additional costs may be required, depending on so many factors. This financial challenge adds to Lavinia’s grieving of her dad's passing in addition to the pressure of her battle with an aggressive form of cancer that took over her life in the past 3 weeks. Her fighting style is unbelievable - with dignity, discretion, and always a sweet smile on her face. She is strong and determined to succeed. With such a force, she will be a winner; but now she needs urgent help. This fundraising event is organized to help Lavinia raise the funds needed to save her life.
