Iggy's Medical Care

Nick and penelope have had a frenchie for as long as we can remember.  Their first baby was a fawn frenchie named Boughie. When she passed in 2010 Nick's daughter Penelope took it very hard.  So when Nick heard about a pied frenchie that was found overheated on the side of Ventura Blvd he decided to go meet her. They were a match and Nick immediately adopted her from Smashface Rescue. Penelope fell in love with her and named her Iggy.

In 2014, Nick learned of another frenchie that had just been confiscated from an abusive backyard breeder. Unsure of whether Iggy wanted a brother he agreed to foster. Iggy fell in love with the baby who Penelope and Nick named Hank.

Iggy, Hank, Nick and Penelope (The Leo Tribe) have become thick as thieves. The pups get to sleep in bed, snuggle on the couch, eat amazing puppy chicken, go bye bye in the car and lounge anywhere they please around the house.

They used to go on walks but Iggy started favoring her front, right leg a month ago. Thinking that it was just a sprain, Nick and Penelope started lifting her on and off the bed and the couch instead of letting her jump and hoped that it was just a sprain. But it just got worse and the front leg was becoming totally useless.

Nick took her to the vet who recommended a neurologist as Iggy's pupil's were abnormal. On Tuesday, November 24th, Nick took Iggy to Dr. Baum in Culver City.  All orthopedic-related testing came back inconclusive. The biopsy report came back - no disease present.  The X-rays showed no fracture.

Dr. Baum told Nick that this kind of progressive crippling coupled with pupil dilation has a name. Iggy was diagnosed with Brachial Plexus Neuropathy. It is a condition which typically evades diagnosis because evidence is difficult to detect with imaging, treatment is challenging and prognosis for ever walking again is poor.

In discussing our options Dr. Baum recommended amputation. He said it will be an adjustment but she will no longer be in pain and she will be able to walk again once she adjusts.

Nick desperately wants to have this procedure done as soon as possible  for Penelope but does not have pet insurance or the financial means to cover the expenses.  The cost of treatment, MRI, surgery and aftercare is approximately $9,000.00.

Anyone who knows Nick and Penelope knows that he loves his bullies, his daughter and his friends. He is like a big brother to everyone and will come to the rescue if you call.

If you don't know Nick Penelope and Iggy personally please know that this little girl is treated like family and loved very much. Nick took her off the street to give her the best life possible and he does not want to fail her, Hank or Penelope now.

It is time for us to show up for Nick. Let's come together and help with Iggy's medical expenses so that she is no longer in pain! Let's stop at nothing to give Iggy the care and life she deserves. Thank you!
