Ian Fletcher Lynch Spirit of the River Fund
The Ian Fletcher Lynch Spirt of the River Fund is a memorial fund that has been established to honor the memory of Ian Fletcher Lynch who passed away on June 25th, 2016 at the age of 27 years old. Ian was constantly spreading love and encouragement with his infectious smile and his particularly adept way with words. He was also an incredibly passionate young man who dreamed big when it came to the way he wanted to impact the world. This fund has been established in order to continue to bestow on his communities the gifts he would have contributed to them and to give life to his dreams in the wake of his passing.
Mission:
The Ian Fletcher Lynch Fund provides funding opportunities to community members in both Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts to support activities that further it’s awardee’s education and/or success in relation to one or both of two subjects that were of particular importance to Ian, poetry and a love of river guiding.
Vision:
We envision that awardees will use the funding to drive forward their passion for the river community or for the writing of poetry.
Values:
We seek to award these funds to individuals who demonstrate a significant passion for the river community and/or passion for the writing of poetry and who wish to use the funds towards furthering their contribution to that field of interest.
Scholarship funds have since been established with Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Buckland MA, and Crabapple White Water in Deerfield MA.
To date, we have given out the following:
In 2019 Ben West received the Wilderness First Responder scholarship through Crabapple Whitewater.
In 2019 Mason Biagini received the poetry scholarship through Mohawk High School.
In 2018 Sawyer Levy received the Wilderness First Responder scholarship through Crabapple Whitewater.
In 2018 Violet Rawlings received the poetry scholarship through Mohawk High School
In 2017 Samantha Cairns received the Wilderness First Responder scholarship through Crabapple Whitewater.
In 2017 Rebecca Scranton received the poetry scholarship through Mohawk High School
In 2017 Dave Hansen Whitewater received scholarship funds to launch the Ian Lynch River school for kids. Details to follow on the development of this program.
We hope to see these programs prosper and grow over time in the honor of Ian. Thank you!!!
