Hello :-)
My name is Elizania Guzman, I am Andrea Peralta's Mom.. My princess is now 7 years old, she was diagnosed with birth hypoxic ischemic encephalopaty and took seizure medication until she did fine and graduated from the high risk infants clinic at kaiser Oakland.. She did fine for 4 years free of seizures until recently she got sick with pneumonia for second time this year, she developed high fevers and started seizing again.. She had 1 seizure at home and 2 seizures on our way to the hospital, she got to the ER of Kaiser Oakland seizing.. She was hospitalized for a week,  they did ct scan, MRI, a lumbar puncture and she was conected to an EEG machine for 24 hrs. Studies showed damage on the left side of her brain and some inflammation too.  They had her on keppra ( a seizure medication ) that normaly makes a person sleepy and drowsy, but my daughter stayed awake for 48 hours so I did... It was frustrating to see my daughter screaming at me and asking me to help her, some other moments she didnt even knew who I was.. After those 48 hrs the PICU team ( Pediatric intensive care unit team ) switched her to other meds while her pneumonia got worse... After 4 days she was finally breathing by her own... They discharged her by Thanskgiving with another diagnosed: Epilepsy, since then the stressful moments remain.. She had 3 minor seizures at home, hallucinations and 3 accidents in bed  ( she peed while sleeping )..
Tomorrow we are incresing the dosage of tryleptal and decreasing the phenytoin until 0.. She also goes back to school but just to give a try as the Neurologist suggested.. I'm going to stay at school with her, this past friday I notified her teacher and the principal that she was going back and all of us are going to pay attention on her and the side effects from the antiseizure medications as they prevent seizures but affects your child’s development. All areas that may be affected are: learning, social skills, walking, talking and fine and gross motor skills.

I know it's around the holidays and I know this may be asking a lot but I been away from work since mid October due to severe dermatitis flare ups, when I went back to work I got a flare up there and I had to go home, my face got so swollen that I hardly could see.. I recovered from that episode but that weekend my daughter started to get sick too..  I am a hard worker single Mom, had 3 jobs and hardly a day off.. I've bitten my pride to do this but my most important concern is her safety throughout the night and when she is at school. I am creating this page money to purchase a medical ID bracelet, a heart monitor an embrace bracelet too. The embrace bracelet can detect the onset of a seizure base on the wearer's movements and automatic nervous system activity, it can sense a change in her body and will send an alert. The most important thing to me is her safety from SUDEP ( sudden unexplanied death in epilepsy )... Any amount can help to reach our goal to getting one step closer to her protection... I need her to be safe in a way to go back to work to keep providing her needs...
I thank you in advance for your support and prayers and if is not much to ask more to wish us good luck tomorrow for her first day at school...  It will be a decisive week for her....
