My name is Ashley Penuell, mother of Alban, who had a horrible accident Tuesday, December 3.
I received a call no parent wants to get.
Alban had an accident involving a .22 caliper rifle, as he was putting it away, it went off.
He was scared, i was scared!
Police and Paramedics arrived on the scene and immediately got to work.
Alban was stabilized but needed further treatment. He was then airlifted to LSU Shreveport for a CT scan and radiographs.
The trajectory of the bullet went into his chin, through the soft pallet, into the nasal cavity, and ended in the right eye, missing the brain (hallelujah)
His breathing was stable.
The doctors had a plan in place to take him to surgery. There, they performed an exploratory surgery, wash out of the mouth, and revised the soft pallet. The entry wound was dressed and they wanted to keep it open for faster healing. The nasal cavity was not damaged and did not need surgery, praise God . The doctor said it was MINOR injuries, look at God!
The surgery was a success, and he is in recovery.
The eye, on the other hand, will need to heal before we can make a decision on surgery or not. He can see, but its blurry. The fragments of the bullet are either sitting on the nerve or muscle causing constriction. We won't know when the swelling goes down, that this will correct itself or not. BUT GOD!!!
After surgery we got to visit with him. He was feeling good, making jokes (as best as he could, it's hard for him to talk right now) but he is ALIVE!!! Thank you Jesus
Any donations made on his behalf are much appreciated. Love to all.
