While at the vet, I made a new friend named Connie Denning. Connie is an elder living on a fixed income & has 3 dogs she cares for & loves. She is a devoted caretaker & sets aside money for each one of them so they get the proper care they need. She even has a folder dedicated to all her vet bills & records that she takes with her whenever she visits a vet. Unfortunately, Connie's almost 3 year-old long-haired Chihuahua couldn't put any weight down on his left hind leg & she was so sad that he was in pain. So she took him to the vet & at the vet they found through an xray that he had a torn ACL. While waiting for her estimate, I heard her telling her dog Buddy that whatever it cost, she was going to take care of it becasue she hated that he was in pain. While speaking with her, she thought the estimate would be about $1,000 - $1,500 (tops). I knew this would not be the case so I told her to prepare. When she received the estimate of nearly $4,000, she started to cry. Cry because she felt defeated & because she didn't know how she would afford what it would actually take to get Buddy out of pain. When I saw this lady, a bit frail but willing to do anything to help her pets, I knew I had to step in & help. I don't know Connie & I don't owe her anything, but I couldn't just turn my back on her. I knew I could provide the resources to help her, through my networks of animal-loving, caring individuals who like me, want to help Connie provide comfort for Buddy. At only 2 years 9 months, he has a lot of life to still live & the goal of this fundraiser is for him to live the rest of his life out of pain from a torn ACL.
