Aloha my name is Kris Moniz. I'm the Track Operator of Sandbox BMX and President of Islandbmx.org. Island BMX is a volunteer based non profit organization that heavily relies on donations thru the community to improve and develop our only cycling facility in Hawaii. Without the help of our volunteers and donations we would not be able to keep BMX, an Olympic sport alive in Hawaii. Over the past years we have had numerous break-ins and vandalism to our facility, but nothing tops what has happened to us on 11/21/19. Vandals have shattered office windows, broken into several locked containers housing rental bikes and maintenance equipment. This time attempting to set fire our office by dousing it with gasoline and also setting fire to another structure. Since this incident we have had to immediately end our racing season. We have started a gofundme page to help raise funds to be able to make repairs from this horrible incident and to reopen our track once repairs to the facility have been made. We are working very closely with Honolulu Police Department as well as Department of Land and Natural Resources to make our facility back to being a safe place for our families! Since setting our goal, we are so overwhelmed by the support we have been receiving from our community... we have surpassed our goal and are so very grateful!! In a Non-Profit organization, every dollar counts in to keeping this amazing place here for the community! Keep spreading the Aloha!
