It's one of the most heartbreaking moments a person will ever encounter in their lives, loosing a parent.
Unfortunately this is a reality now for my sisters and I, my mum last week was informed she might not make it till Christmas.
It is earth shattering to hear or to believe this fatal diagnosis, to be faced with the possibility that this is inevitably the end for my only parent.
My single mother Kim has been battling cancer for the past 6 years, we have been exhausted by relentless treatments for more than half a decade as the cancer continued to spread and grow more aggressive over time.
Last week we were told the cancer had spread drastically and has progressed all through her bones, it is also surrounding some of her major organs.
The Andrew Love centre in Geelong has recommended a medication which is a staggering $3600 a month, the treatment is a targeted therapy called Pallociclib. It is the only option in her case, which was advised by one of Geelong's leading oncologists, it will help suppress the cancer and hold it at bay, however unfortunately in my mothers case there is no cure.
We are asking you to help us buy extra time with our mother, my sisters are at a vulnerable and fragile age and need their mum now more than ever, If you know Kimmy D she is a light in the world.
The struggle is real, the reality is the cost of 'the gift of time' is equivalent to a mortgage, while mum has struggled to pay rent, school and living costs, she has always put the girls first, desperate times for call desperate times, our mum is our home and we need to keep our world alive
She also needs some help to alleviate some of the financial burdens she is enduring, unfortunately she is not fit to work and now cannot independently support the girls.
I ask you to help us raise funds towards this targeted therapy and give my mum the gift of time, you can help us to continue to grow, love and support each other.
I ask you as a daughter, son or sibling to help me, I wish I never had to ask this but we need your help now more than ever.
