URGENT APPEAL AND COMMUNITY UPDATE
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.
Dear Respected Brothers and Sisters,
Alhamdulillah we had our community meeting on Sunday, October 23rd. May Allah (SWT) reward all of you who responded; we truly appreciate your support and advice. For those who could not make it, following is a summary of the three major items that were discussed and decided:
1) Firstly, we have been put in a very difficult situation by our lessor who has presented us with a rental increase and new lease terms. Despite this news, there was consensus at the meeting to maintain IEC at our current location by raising funds to meet our rental expense. It was agreed upon that we will only sign the new lease if we are able to meet our rental payment of $3500/month through direct deposit donations. Currently we are at 50% of our goal. In order to keep IEC open, we all need to come together and take part by signing up for a monthly direct deposit donation.
This is an urgent appeal to all students past and present of IEC, and the community at large. We have to come up with the remainder 50% in commitments in the next two weeks. We are now in a time that calls for commitment and action. We need to maintain all our places of learning, teaching, and worship; we cannot afford to shut down at a time like this! We encourage all to give as generously and boldly as your means allow you to, while remembering the generosity of Our Creator towards us, considering that 100% of what we have is ultimately from Allah (SWT).
Every dollar will help towards keeping IEC open.
2) Secondly, two new community members were selected to serve on the IEC board of directors. These two brothers will join the existing three board members. IEC Board Members are: Mohamed Gibani, Mesbah Ahmed, Dr. Adnan Abdeen, Hussein Sakr, and Omer Rangoonwala.
3) Lastly, as most of you are aware, IEC owns a vacant piece of land in the City of Walnut. This is an asset which IEC has had for some time. We will be listing this land for sale and looking for a permanent location that has a completed structure adequate for our needs. These funds have always been earmarked for the purchase of a permanent location for IEC, and they will not be used for any operational expenses.
May Allah (SWT) bless and reward all of you!
