Training is under way!
I've been a lot of things in my 36 years on this planet, but something special happened 10 years ago when I started working with sled dogs. These amazing creatures have changed the way I look at life. With a capacity for compassion matched only by their dedication and amazing physical ability, they set the highest standard for what it means to be a person.
Of course, it's hard to be a musher without a trail, and there is one trail in Alaska that is revered above all others. The Iditarod is the pinnacle of this way of life. It will challenge my dogs and myself in ways we have never been challenged, traveling 1000 of remote Alaskan wilderness. We will run on frozen rivers and through mountain passes, over sea ice and some of the most rugged and wild country in the world!
Getting to the starting line can be just as daunting as running the race. We start training in September, gradually building strength and endurance through the next six months. Hundreds of booties and thousands of pounds of dog food and meat will come and go as we prepare for the race.
I know that the world is a very uncertain place, especially in the times we live. If you are financially secure enough to help me run this race, I will be forever grateful. I'll post pictures and updates of the team as we progress, and tell you about some of the unique and loving personalities that will be traveling the trail with me.
