I am the proud sister of a nurse who has had a rapid decline in mental health over the past month due to the high exposure to death in a FL ICU. She is currently seeking treatment, but she is physically and mentally unable to work during this time. She is unable to receive any assistance due to the fact that she is still employed and already exhausted her short term disability this year for maternity leave. She was the sole provider for the family, and now has absolutely no income. She has two young children, and they are safe, but with her inability to work she is unable to financially afford anything at this time. Please understand these special circumstances, especially if you work in healthcare, you know how hard the past few months have been. The truth is this could be anyone. She did everything that she could possibly do for her patients. She was intubating and coding young people in their 30s-40s. She began calling us at random hours of the night terrified and crying her eyes out. She wanted so badly to help her patients, but the majority resulted in suffering and ultimately death. I know that if you are a nurse and you have worked through this pandemic you can understand the dark hole that she is currently in. I would explain the extent of her condition, but I know that in her usual state of mind, she would prefer to remain private. Our family is doing the best that we can to support and advocate for her during this time. Please consider helping a local nurse, as she has served diligently the members of her community in their time of need. Please help her overcome this terrible tragedy so that she doesn’t lose everything that she has worked so hard for. Thank you for your consideration and time.
Attached are some snips from her Facebook page over the course of 2 months before this all happened.
