Chili Thai Uptown ICU Bill Glenn & Rachanee Dyer

For those of you who don’t know.. My brother Glenn Dyer and his wife Rachanee own Chili Thai Uptown.  Rachanee has been in ICU for a week at ST Francis.  She is still in critical condition and on a ventilator.   My brother is updating her progress on the Restaurant’s Facebook Page.    He does not know that I am doing this and would rather he not find out.  He is suffering emotionally and I know the bills will be impossible to deal with and I’m sure he isn’t even thinking about that right now.   I would like to be able to help them once the bills start rolling in.

I will try to post his updates here

Things have gotten complicated the last couple of days. Rachanee’s potassium levels have become extremely elevated. If something wasn’t done in the next 24 hours she could have suffered organ failure. I had to grant the doctors permission to start her on emergency dialysis. The nurse said this may be a one time event. We can only hope. The nurse did say Rachanee’s Acidosis had improved. Sorry, I don’t know how that helps.

After25 years of marriage I can tell you it Is not long enough. I guess it is true that every moment is precious, even the bad ones. Funny how your life can change in a week.

The information yesterday was devastating to me so I couldn't post it.

Today the news is a little better. They flipped her on her stomach early yesterday. Then later in the day they flipped her on her back. She responded in a positive manner so they were able to leave her on her back. They stopped her paralytic but she is still on heavy sedation. The chest x-ray was good. There is no permanent damage to her lungs after the partial lung collapse. The plan is to remove the tube from her chest later today. Her current oxygen setting is down to 50%. They may attempt to lower her oxygen settings further this afternoon.

It has not been a good weekend for Rachanee. On Saturday, she suffered a partial collapsed lung. They were forced to jack her oxygen back to 100 and her PEEP to 10. Later, they were able to bring her oxygen down to 70 where it remains today.

This morning she became super agitated and had to be sedated. After that she was able to breath normally.

The nurses tell me her life is not in jeopardy.

Nothing good to report today. Rachanee had another setback last night. They had to raise her oxygen back to 65% and now she has a mild fever. The nurses believe that she is anxious to get the breathing tube out so she is fighting the ventilator.

Not on purpose of course.

They plan to replace all her tubes today.

Rachanee was able to tolerate 45 minutes with the ventilator turned off. Unfortunately after that she began breathing rapidly and they had to turn it back on. Her oxygen settings are holding at 50% and her PEEP settings were bumped up to 8%.

They most likely will not make another attempt today.
With every baby step she is closer to coming home.
Thanks for your continued blessings.
Glenn

A Little good news for you today. They lowered her oxygen to 50% and reduced her PEEP settings to 5%. So far so good. The plan tomorrow is to let her breath on her own for a while. Depending on how that goes they may reduce her settings even more. Fingers crossed that she will be coming home soon. I hope you and your family can remain safe and healthy.
Thanks
Glenn Dyer

She is doing better this morning. After yesterdays Bronchoscopy they lowered her oxygen settings back to 60% and then last night they lowered her PEEP settings back to 8%. The plan this afternoon is to lower her oxygen settings further to test if she can handle it. We have high hopes she is very close to getting off the ventilator. I hope to have GREAT news around 4pm. Thank you for your kind words of support for my wife and best friend. Bless you all.

They lowered her oxygen to 40% and she started having breathing issues. They raised her back to 60% and were forced to increase her PEEP setting to 12%. Otherwise she is alert and responding to questions.
A minor setback as they try to ween her off the respirator.

6/9/20

They lowered her oxygen to 50% but her body couldn’t handle it (yet)
She loved looking at the puppy pics I sent. She is very alert and responds well to the nurse.

Tomorrow is a new day and hopefully we can make further progress on her oxygen levels.

Thanks again for caring.
Glenn

Oxygen still at 60%. PEEP 8%
Still on very mild sedative. Small amount of pain meds due to the ventilator tube.

The best news is that they turned the ventilator OFF for 20 minutes and Rachanee was able to breath on her own. She was very responsive to the nurse and even helped the nurse with the frequent turnings.
Can’t wait to bring her home.

6/8/20
Oxygen still at 60% but they cut the pressure from 12% to 8%. The sedation is wearing off and she is remaining calm.

She is nodding when spoken to and very responsive. She perked up when asked about her puppies.

She is no longer on blood pressure medicine and her vitals are good.

Hope that helps
Glenn

Update: 4 6/8/20 Noon

We had a great update today.
They flipped Rachanee on her back with no changes in oxygen requirements. This alone is huge. Most patients suffer setbacks when flipped on their backs. The nurse said they might even lower her oxygen settings further today.

She is no longer immobilized and the sedation is beginning to wear off. They will keep her slightly sedated for the near future.

The wonderful news is that Rachanee opened her eyes and made eye contact with her nurse and squeezed her hand.

You can’t imagine how important your prayers are to Rachanee and myself. Thanks again.

Update: 3
Not much to tell you this evening. She is still stable. She will remain face down until 4am. They lowered her oxygen back to 60%. Her body is using 100%. When they flip her on her back we will know more. All vitals are strong and she continues her fight. Be strong for her.

Please continue your prayers.

Update: 2
She is still stable. The doctors did flip her on her stomach. She immediately improved. They must leave her face down for the next 18 hours. Her vitals are strong. We are still waiting for the results of her Bronchoscopy.

Thank you for all your prayers.

UPDATE:
Your prayers are working.
She is now stable. The doctors have reduced her oxygen to 60%... down from 100%. They said they may lower it even further.

Thanks for prayers.

The situation has gotten far worse. We do not anticipate any good news at this point my wife is on a respirator. She is not responding to the latest drug therapies. She is considered an extreme case. They have paralyzed her and sedated her to reduce her suffering.

Please pray for her.

Thank you.
