My name is Jasmin Echols. I’m the mother of a 16-year-old; her name is Icéss. On 1/5/2025, my daughter was in a motor vehicle accident. She was admitted to the hospital with a broken spine, multiple broken ribs, and collapsed lungs. Throughout her hospitalization, she underwent multiple procedures, including a Spinal Fusion to stabilize her spinal cord (T3-T9), a Pericardial Fusion on her heart to drain fluid that was crushing one of her chambers in heart (transfered from New Brunswick, NJ to Philadelphia to Chop ICU) multiple procedures to insert tubes in her lungs to drain fluid which kept accumulating. Icéss was in the hospital from 1/5/2025 to 1/29/2025. On 1/29/2025, she went to rehabilitation until 3/19/2025. In rehab, she has gained her strength and is now, in medical terms, an Incomplete Paraplegic. Throughout therapy and her being resilient, she can walk short distances with a walker. Unfortunately, she is unable to stand or walk for long periods, which requires a wheelchair to safely ambulate independently. Due to me being out of work for 4 months being at my daughter's bedside during her hospitalization and rehabilitation stay, I have developed financial hardship. In the rehabilitation hospital wheelchairs are provided to the children during the stay, however when they are discharged a temporary rental is provided. The rental had to be returned before the order is placed through the wheelchair vendor. I returned the rental only to receive this devastating news. Icéss requires a wheelchair, which is not covered by insurance until a $4,000.00 deductible is met. This unforeseen incident has been a journey for sure. My daughter does physical therapy 3 times a week to continue learning to walk again. Through this challenging time I just need my daughter to gain her independence back as individuals who suffer from SCI deal with many debilitating factors.
Update as of 6/13/2025. Due to the overwhelming pour in of support from my co-workers at my job & a few friends my daughter is 75% to her fundraising goal. What an amazing amount of support! I appreciate you guys and can’t thank you enough for your generosity, care and concern. I originally asked for donations totaling $4000.00 however I will be adjusting this fundraiser to $1000.00.
All documentation from her doctors are being submitted in order for my daughter to obtain her wheelchair and I can say it so humbly and proud that I’m sure she will reach her goal and have the total amount for her wheelchair cost. I have 1 more week!
It took a lot for me to actually make this fundraiser for my daughter as I deal with being prideful. However there is nothing I won’t do for my daughter to have anything thing she requires. I didn’t expect this to have this much support. But indeed it was. We are forever grateful and thankful
Thank you for taking the time to review my daughters story, even if you’re unable to donate I appreciate you. To donors of this fund THANK YOU!! I will remain forever grateful for your contribution. Any and all funds received through this donation will go straight to the vendor supplying the customized chair for my daughters specific needs. Thank you!
