Dear FB Family
As many of you may know - my sister Nina has been battling an autoimmune disease. It is called "cerebellum ataxia". It's a disease that affects her muscles and there is no cure or treatment. It's a disease similar to ALS and it gets progressively worse and will eventually take her life. Many people have never heard of cerebellum ataxia and I hope to bring awareness to it. Approximately 150,000 people suffer from this in the United States. It is unclear how my sister got this disease but she has been to neurologists in NYC, Cleveland Clinic and back to NYC with no answers. What started out 4 years ago with a balance issue has evolved into her inability to walk or do common daily tasks. EVERYTHING is affected - even her speech. She is basically trapped in her own body.
Nina's devoted Superman husband Tom takes care of her, his jobs, the house, everything. Nina is in a wheelchair that she cannot get out of by herself. With help she can only stand and pivot from wheelchair to bed. Getting Nina into the shower is dangerous and difficult for both her and Tom. She has been very private about her situation, but its become all too difficult and consuming.
Besides an overflowing basket of medical bills, renovation to her bathroom is very much needed to make handicapped accessible. A ramp is also needed at the back of her house so she can get out to get fresh air on her patio. This is why I am reaching out to you! There is nothing I can do for her but maybe make her and Tom's life a little easier and relieve some of the stress, pressure and anxiety by starting a fundraising process allowing Nina to complete her life with dignity and respect.
Not one to complain about things anyway, Nina looks at the glass as "half full". Her motto is: I've got to focus on what I can do and NOT what I can't do. She says "she's been dealt a bad hand, got to play it the best way possible". It's amazing how she stays positive and hopeful.
Many of you have already reached out to her with love, support, food and prayers and that has helped her tremendously. Thank you!!
Please share this information with your contacts to draw attention and awareness of Cerebellum Ataxia. Google it if you get a chance.
I thank you for taking the time to read this and I thank you for your consideration to help Nina (and Tom).
Love, peace, good health to you and your family this Christmas season!
