Help for Syrian Refugee Family

This is the Ibrahim Family.  Hanifi, Laila, Mohamed, Kifara, Cardina and Karile. They originally lived outside of Aleppo Syria.  They moved to Istanbul Turkey about 5 years ago as their country was not safe. They had been subjected to bombs and violence during the civil war. After moving to Turkey, the UN assigned them to relocation to America! After spending 18 months going through our vetting process where each family member was interviewed multiple times...they made their way to San Diego.  They spent some time in a motel before the resettlement agency found housing for them in City Heights.  I met them Feb. 8th when I became involved with a non-profit organization, Syrian Community Network, which was formed less than a year ago.  It was established by a group of Syrian/American woman who's goal was to assist these families during their transition.  Each family is matched up with an American family to help make that process just a little easier.
Now that the Ibrahim's have been here since January 2017, they have most of the physical items they need thanks to the generousity of friends and community members.  They are enrolled in school (1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th grade). Parents attend ESL classes for 4 hours a night. So progress has been made and it's fun teaching them new words and watching their growth.  There's definitely been highs and lows and as I learn more and more...they have many challenges ahead.  The most immediate challenge is their rental assistance will be running out shortly so they will need approximately $500 a month to cover their 'rent gap'.  Hanifi now has his drivers license. Next, will need a car and of course insurance.  Once this happens and English continues to improve, he can hopefully get a job. He's trained as a welder but open to any type of work.  They will also need money to pay off their flights. Not sure of the total expense but since there are 6 of them I'm sure it's a lot of money (they will pay $140 a month until it's paid off starting July 2017).  These are some of their most immediate expenses and if you're willing to help out, it would be most appreciated!  They are a lovely family and as they said the first day I met them...they just want a better life for their kids.

SCN can also issue a tax deductable receipt for any donation of $250 or over - if you do this, please let me know so I can include the amount in the campaign - you can make check payable to Syrian Community Network-San Diego

Thank you for helping this family get back on their feet and assisting them during this difficult time!

1. Who Am I? My name is Deanne Rudman, and I am a volunteer with Heart4Refugees/SCN, a nonprofit organization based in San Diego that seeks to ensure the 1000 Syrian refugees who have been resettled here are supported during their transition to new lives in America.
2. Where am I from? Northern CA.
3. How do I know the Ibrahim Family? They are my "adopted" family through Heart4Refugees. It is my desire that our relationship will continue, and I will be able to offer not only financial help but also the comfort of a supportive friendship and assistance as they navigate their new life in America.
4. How will the funds will be used? I will be using the funds to help meet their rent gap need and any other bills associated with the apartment (electricity, etc) until they are gainfully employed and more financially independent. Any excess money will be used to buy the family a car/insurance/gas, pay back the funds for the flight to the US and any other expenses that come up.
5. Will funds be given directly to the family? No. Heart4Refugees strongly recommends the funds be used on the family's behalf rather than being delivered directly to the family (for example, it is better to pay rent to the family's landlord or to the non-profit Syrian Community Network on their behalf than to just give the family cash). This way, volunteers can coordinate to ensure the maximum number of families get what they need.
