ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Desperate to kick their deadly habit, four American opioid users learn of a unique plant medicine treatment that eliminates craving and withdrawal from addiction in just one session. Offered the treatment under the auspices of an experimental pilot program, and with nothing to lose, they travel together to a clinic in Mexico accompanied by medical professionals and family members who witness the procedure.
Iboga Saves: Healing the Heartland explores the opioid hell-scape that the participants and their families have endured, their miraculous recovery treatment in Mexico and the critical integration therapy that helps them put their lives back together and restore damaged ties to their community.
Impact Creative, a Bay Area production company, and Awake Media, a San Diego digital media company propose to film the entire procedure, before, during, and after, and produce a documentary that serves as a message of hope for a desperate population by exploring a possible solution to the opioid epidemic that continues to send tens of thousands of citizens a year to an early grave.
The main action with iboga/ibogaine happens on the inside. In addition to documenting the outer journey, we will recreate the inner psychospiritual journey and teaching that Ibogaine delivers, and expose—through expert interviews and narrative arc—how and why a medicine that heals trauma, addiction and grief by way of a mystical experience might be the missing link in a broken addiction recovery system.
1. Spread the word about iboga as a treatment for addiction.
2. Change the laws that deny Americans access to this medicine.
3. Educate those seeking treatment abroad about the risks and requirements.
4. Help people understand the inner psychospiritual journey how best to navigate it.
5. Document the integration process for long-term recovery.
