Ian’s Cancer Battle II: THE RECKONING
Donation protected
This is Ian and Tracie Brown. Some of you may know them as my parents, and some of you may have no idea who I am. That’s ok. I’m proud of you for making it this far regardless.
If you’re new here, this is what you need to know:
Ian has worked for the PD in Willimantic, Connecticut for 23 years. Tracie worked in the ER at Windham Hospital, located in the same town for over a decade, and now works at a small clinic in Storrs.
In March, Ian went to the hospital with abdominal pain and a persistent fever. The next day he was in surgery to have two large tumors removed from his intestine.
It turns out that he has a very rare and aggressive form of cancer (monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T cell lymphoma- yes, it’s a mouthful).
So far, our community and friends have been amazing and supportive. Officer Ryan Jones ran 69 miles (Ian’s badge number is 269) to support and raise awareness for them, and over 200 people donated to the GoFundMe set up by the Willimantic PBA while it was still running. Our family wouldn’t have made it this far without each and every one of them.
But the fight’s not over yet, and they still need help. Right now they’re continuing to drive back and forth between Coventry, CT and and Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to meet with specialists and prepare for his stem cell transplant in June. Meanwhile the medical expenses continue to build alongside their regular monthly bills. Ian receives his last paycheck on June 8.
On top of that, when he is admitted to the hospital for his transplant, both Ian and Tracie will have to stay in New York for the first 4 months of his recovery, and will have to deal with their living expenses there as well.
At the request of friends and family who wanted a place for them to donate and receive updates on Ian’s treatment, I have started this GoFundMe for them, because they’d never do it for themselves. I’m asking you to please donate and share this where you can, so they can focus on Ian’s treatment and recovery without the added financial stress, as they should.
