A devoted godmother is calling out on behalf of her godson and cousin. My name is Maria and my cousin Sam and husband Colin were blessed a few months ago with a baby they prayed many years for. My Godson Ian. Ian is only nearing his fourth month on this Earth but has already endured more than most. Ian was born and admitted into the ICU for the first few weeks of his life. He was born with afflictions starting with jaundice, tongue tied and a recessed chin. Soon after it was apparent Ian's ability to breathe became difficult. A noticeable change in the shape of his head alerted his parents to seek out more medical counsel. They were instructed to come in for a sleep study amongst other testing. This later uncovered a diagnosis of laryngomalacia, feeding difficulty, craniosynostosis, strabismus, and hypotonia. It was then that Drs. explained that the unique head formation was due to Ian's Craniosynostosis which is a birth defect in which the bones of a baby's skull fuse together too early. This premature fusion forces the baby's head to grow into an abnormal shape, since the skull cannot expand properly as the brain develops. As a result of Ian's severe obstructive central sleep apnea he has suffered difficulty including his consistent pauses in breathing both asleep and awake therefore Ian requires the use of an oxygen tank and round the clock care. Surgery is inevitable. I am starting this GoFundMe on their behalf because they are humbled parents that I don't believe would ever ask on their own. Baby Ian needs full time support and care in the home which has made it impossible for my cousin to return to work. This in combination with the medical attention needed to properly care for baby Ian have created an unmeasurable strain. My cousin stood by me when life threw me my own set of challenges. I want to stand by her and her family now. Ian is a little warrior and has primarily known a life of monitors and testing his short time here. That being said, one thing you can always depend on seeing is an ear to ear grin on Ian's face. His resilience pushes and motivates me to call out to you today. If you are in a place where you an contribute to the revival of this family, you are greatly appreciated and honorarily one of Ian's angels. Many thanks from my family to yours!
