Ian Kronbeck is the first 6th grader from Hawley Public Schools to become a National History Day Finalist! His website on Curt Flood shares how Flood stood up for professional baseball players' rights to be traded and eventually influenced the free agency professional athletes have today.

An Unfair Past- Curt Flood: Stepping up to the Plate
(pretty amazing for a 12 year old!)
Ian will be one of the two students representing Team Minnesota in the Jr. Individual Website Category (grades 6-8) at the National History Competition. Over 27,000 students compete in the Minnesota History Day competition each year, so this is quite a feat!
Held immediately after the school year ends, the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day is located just outside Washington D.C. at the University of Maryland. For 7 days, Ian will make many friends, compete for the grand prize, and explore our nation's history and government.
It's a chance for fun, learning and excitement.
Our budget includes the full tuition of Ian to attend, as well as a (mandatory) school chaperone, Mrs. Jennifer Tjaden, who would be volunteering her time to coach and support.
What Ian needs:
Airfare - $312 (from Minneapolis with the team)
Airfare from Fargo to Minneapolis(rather than extra hotel & drive) -$315 (estimation)
Ground Transportation - $30
Room and Board in a Dormitory - $505
Contest Registration Fee - $110
Metro Card for Transportation $60
State Program Fee - $30
Extra Meals off site - $100
Total: $1462
