Ian C.'s Room & Board at Dance Theater of Harlem
Donation protected

Our gifted and talented Ian Campbell has been awarded a full scholarship to attend the 2022 Summer Intensive with Dance Theatre of Harlem. As you know, Ian began attending virtual classes with me in June 2020. You may have seen him perform in 2020 and 2021, and I'm sure you were able to see how talented and passionate he is in Classical Ballet.
He now needs the finances for room and board. So, I am asking all of Dance for Joy Ministries alumni, supporters, friends and families to donate to help Ian embrace this opportunity to study with Dance Theatre of Harlem this summer.
IAN CAMPBELL'S TESTIMONY
Ian is an exceptionally talented 14-year-old young man. He has two significantly older sisters, but Ian is the oldest of the siblings, living at home with both parents. Ian had a normal, happy early childhood.
The family lived at various Army posts, but Ian's home life became chaotic following tragic life-changing events...
- When Ian was six years old, his father suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury.
- His younger brother became ill on Ian’s 7th birthday and was emergency lifted to another state (directly from Ian’s party).
- A few months later, while Ian and the rest of his family were with his brother, there was a total-loss fire at their home.
In less than two years, Ian had lost the army life he was born into, his possessions, home, and stability. Ian had to become independent and mature quickly. His mother struggled to rebuild their lives while balancing caring for his dad and his chronically ill little brother.
Ian rose to the challenge, learning to help care for himself and his two younger siblings. Over the next few years, Ian’s mom attempted to find various outlets to keep her children active. Ian was a "Kid's First!" film critic. He's a talented magician and a Blue Belt 2nd stripe in Kung Fu. When the pandemic hit, Ian's parents enrolled him in virtual Kung Fu and his little sister in dance classes. While babysitting his sister during her virtual lessons, Ian discovered dance, more specifically, classical ballet. He feels that ballet allows him to have control and order in a chaotic world. (Approved by Ian's mother, Melissa Campbell.)
