Ian Smith was recently diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer in bones and soft tissue around the bones. He had just started his 2022 college football season when he started developing symptoms. Ian is a Hudsonville High School alumnus where he played football and ran track. He is currently attending Upper Iowa University and playing football.
It was here during pre-season that Ian started to develop symptoms in his neck that seemed abnormal, even for a football player. After several appointments, scans, and consultations, Ian was officially diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. His doctors and surgical team at Mayo Clinic quickly formed a plan to stabilize his neck with two titanium rods, then start chemotherapy and radiation soon after. Ian and his girlfriend Maddie continue to make the drive back and forth from Iowa to Mayo Clinic for treatments, which will continue through May or June of 2023.
Ian has made a HUGE impact on our community as an athlete, coach, friend, and leader. As a part of our community, we are looking to provide as much support as possible while he fights this battle and discovers God’s plan for turning this evil into something good. Between medical bills, travel, and additional living costs, it is our goal to provide Ian and his family with $35,000 before Thanksgiving to cover these expenses.
Thank you for your generosity!
