My brother Ian is 57 this year. Sometime ago Ian was been diagnosed with essential tremor. This is incurable.
The primary symptoms associated with essential tremor include:
Uncontrollable shaking throughout the body that occurs 24/7
Shaking voice
Nodding head
Tremors that worsen during periods of emotional stress
Tremors that get worse with purposeful movement
All hand mouth head movements
For at least 25 years Ian has had issues with his speech and progressively over the years his shaking has become so much worse. His voice is affected together with his head and hands shaking to extremes. Shaking occurs with normal function such as tying shoelaces, writing, eating, dressing, doing up shirt buttons, shaving etc. Even riding a push bike is becoming an issue. We bought Ian a meat pie and sauce and he stabbed himself in the chin with his fork, bleeding, trying to get a piece of pie from his fork to his mouth. I was shocked at this.
Unfortunately as a builder and expert carpenter his trade has lapsed, as you cannot work long hours and/or out of your comfort zone, and do anything too strenuous, and of course due to shaking its makes so many things impossible.
We are hoping to raise funds for him to help with rent, living, bike riding and maybe buying timber for him to work with:
1. Ian loves making day beds; cheese boards etc. it gives him a purpose to do something but he needs funding for for timber; rent/living etc. He has made a couple of day beds - with lovely timbers - beautiful work; takes many long hard hours - as he cannot work continuously;
2. Ian loves bike riding but it fatigues him too much; he tried an e bike and found that he could travel on this due to the battery powering so therefore his levels of energy were not so taxed;
3. Ian is getting married (for the first time) ...yes, to a great lady who he met at a health retreat, who accepts him for himself. Simple wedding and party as Ian cannot handle anything else.
We need your help to get keep him going, please help my brother.
