Donation protected
My name is Lorraine Maher creator of #IamIrish .  www.iamirish.org .

In 2016 I set up this page to help me to develop and bring this project to Ireland , A lot has happened since that time and this small project has grown to become an international movement . This Project is for the best part self funded and runs on the generous support from people like you .

Thank you to all of those who have believed in this cause and  have supported this project since 2016 I couldn't have done it with out you ....you know who you are !!

But I need continued support to enable this project to grow and reach as many people as possible .

If you can support in any small way  PLEASE do. This following  is a very brief over view of the project so far .

#IAMIRISH - a celebration of diversity

Inspired by a persisting lack of representation of the Black Irish experience, I began a journey to uncover and celebrate a more diverse representation of Irish identity, questioning the notions of ‘Irishness’ and what that means for Irish communities today.

This journey led me to collaborate with photographer Tracey Anderson to create a series of portraits – an intimate study of the faces, lives and experiences of 26 Irish people, all of whom happen to be mixed race. This collection of images celebrates Irish heritage and shines a light on the wonderful diversity not just of the Irish people in Ireland but of people across the globe.

Launching the exhibition at the London Irish Centre in celebration of Black History Month October 2016 created powerful opportunities to weave the celebrations of Black and Irish heritage together and put diversity in full focus.

Last year, #IamIrish spread its wings and made its debut in Dublin's fair city in celebration of Black History Month 2017.

The touring exhibition has been complimented by a series of school and community group visits and public conversations around identity, belonging, heritage and the challenges faced in Irish society today.

Since its birth, the project has attracted huge interest capturing the imagination of people in the UK, Ireland and internationally.

It has sparked creative conversations and connections far beyond the project and the Black Irish experience.

November 2018 will see the Launch of #IamIrish in New York City

#IamIrish is growing to become a  international creative movement which explores perceptions of Colour, Culture, Identity and Heritage and embraces the collective mixed-race experience of Irish heritage in all its diversity.

As the journey unfolds, we’ve begun collecting stories from the people we connect with along the way – each story shared adding another unique perspective to the richness of Irish heritage.

You can visit some of our growing collection of stories on the website www.IamIrish.org.

Alongside the #Iamirish exhibition and workshops we have developed free resources , delivered free training , offered workshops , talks , seminars and panelled events as well as creative workshops  with groups who have performed at St.Patricks day celebrations in London /Dublin
