Bentley's Bills

Our dog Bentley is truly one of the greatest dogs there is. He is friendly, patient and loving. Through tail pulling from the mischievous Alyson to riding him like a horsey as she says I have never once saw him so much as growl or show his teeth to her. Unfortunately he is also a bit mischievous himself and last April decided eating my razor would be a good idea. They were luckily able to remove the razor endoscopically with minimal side effects, aside from the almost $3000.00 vet bill. This past weekend, however, bentleys antics got him into a lot more trouble. He got a hold of 2 hand towels with ham juice on them from thanksgiving and thought it would be a great idea to chow down. Saturday morning he woke up vomiting and wincing in pain. By nighttime it got so bad that he was refusing food and anyone that knows Bentley knows this is extremely unusual! We took him over to the animal hospital where they did x-rays where it appeared something was in his stomach. We decided to have then keep him overnight to see if whatever was in his stomach would pass. The vet called Sunday afternoon to let me know that there was no improvement and he was continuing to vomit and refuse food. She performed an ultrasound and it appeared there was a blockage in his upper gi with the only other option being surgery. When the surgeon went in he found the worst possible scenario. The towel was in his stomach and intestines, pulling his intestines into his stomach. He had to remove part of his intestines and gave him an 80% chance of survival. The day after surgery things weren't looking so good as Bentley's temperature was low and he was less than enthusiastic to get up, eat or drink. This also meant another night at the animal hospital. He is slowly showing signs of improvement, however the most telling days will be days 3-5 (as I am writing this we are on day 2) as most dogs that aren't going to make it pass during this time. With his complications it is unclear when Bentley will be able to come home. Of course we want him to get the best possible care and recover so he can come home to us for good, however with each passing hour the medical bills just continue to increase. With 2 small children and with my husband and I both being teachers the funds for these bills just are by there. If you could spare anything to help bring our boy home we would be so extremely grateful. Bentley is more than just our dog he is part of our family and brings joy to the lives of all that meet him. We thank you for your continued support, thoughts, and prayers. Love, Chelsea, Jeff, Alyson and Eva
