I'm Running for Youth Outside

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” - John Muir

John Muir's words have proven true time and time again for me, and on September 21 I’ll experience these gifts again as I run 100 miles through the forests around Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson.

With each step, I try to be present and grateful for the opportunity to move my strong body through such immense natural beauty. Trail running has become an integral part of my life, continuously grounding me and teaching me how to show up better for myself and others with humility, empathy, and hard work. Last year I wrote that running "opened up my heart while tearing me down;" my love continues to grow in every direction, even as my quads scream for some rest ;).

What's even cooler is that I recently learned about an organization called Youth Outside that makes experiences like these more shared and accessible for everyone.

Youth Outside’s mission is to ensure that the lived experience of all youth is honored as part of the outdoor experience. The heart of the organization involves connecting youth to nature by eliminating barriers, providing resources, and promoting outdoor programming as essential for building healthy lives and inspiring future stewards of the planet. I love that Youth Outside is committed to equity and enhancing leadership opportunities for youth historically underrepresented in the outdoors narrative.

Youth Outside provides grantmaking, capacity-building and training to promote healthy lives and inspire future champions of the planet. Since 2013, Youth Outside has provided meaningful outdoor experiences for over 15,000 youth from historically underrepresented communities across northern and central California.

This year, for the first time, Youth Outside launched a summer giving campaign to raise funds for the Outdoor Educators Institute (OEI), one of its flagship projects. OEI supports young adults, ages 18-24, with an active interest in outdoor recreation and transforms them into skilled adventurers and environmental leaders who will foster access to nature for all youth.

Thank you in advance for your support of Youth Outside and my upcoming trail run!
