I'll B Your Huckleberry-Greg Manuel

If I keep my eyes closed just as I awake, everything is how it was. Can’t we stay there a little longer?

I am starting this GoFundMe account to ask for your help to love and support my gentle giant of a brother, Greg.

Let me tell you about my sweet brother. Greg is my younger brother, the one person in the world who has always ‘got’ me.  He was so cute, kind and quiet as a little boy, growing up in the Cowichan Valley. He loved building Lego, climbing trees, riding bikes, all animals big or small, building forts in the back yard with our sister and neighbourhood friends and celebrating his favourite time of the year (to this day), Christmas. Greg discovered a great interest and love of music and movies while growing up. He grew to use his incredibly quirky sense of humour to entertain all who are blessed to know him by quoting thousands of one liners gleaned from his passion for movies and music. He is ‘Wit’ personified! He is an incredibly kind and generous man; a loyal friend and I am so very proud to call him my brother.

Greg celebrated his 40th Birthday in 2018, surrounded by his three most precious loves, his wife T. and his two sweet little girls, aged six and three years old. They are his world.

On June 13th, 2018, Greg went to the doctor as he had been feeling ill and losing weight. Throughout the next few weeks, he underwent various tests to determine that he had a large watermelon sized growth encapsulating his Adrenal Glands. On July 24th, 2018 he underwent surgery to remove the growth along with one of his adrenal glands, and then spent the next six weeks off of work to let his scars heal from his surgery and regain his strength.

Greg was diagnosed with Stage II Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma-Adrenal Cancer (ACC) on Aug. 17th, 2018.  ACC is a rare aggressive cancer that effects 1-2 people per million each year. Due to Greg’s rare form of cancer, study cases are few and treatments are being handled by a team of doctors from both the Canadian and US medical fields.

Why him? Life all of a sudden got too real, scary and dare I say, unfair. I know I wanted to scream, but my brave, caring brother took the news as well as anyone could under the circumstances and is determined to fight! No longer the little boy I grew up with but a warrior ready to fight cancer so that he can stay here to see his little girls grow into amazing women.

Greg began a daily Mitotane (chemo) treatment in Sept. and has begun a 4-6-week radiation regime as of Nov. 6th, 2018. He will need as much love, prayers, help and support during the next three months as he will be unable to work as he fights his battle with cancer.

Greg is a very proud man who didn’t want to ask for anyone’s help. So, I will. Please help and support Greg and his sweet family.

Thank-you very much.
