I was robbed but things are improving
Donation protected
For the past year and a half, I have lived and developed an off-grid artist space in Antelope Valley. On December 29th, 2021 I took a 48 hour trip to the Salton Sea and during that short window of time, I was robbed. It's hard to describe the feeling I felt upon returning to the land and realizing my 20 ft travel trailer was missing, and that was just the start. I was so distracted by the fact that the doors on my shipping container were opened I did not even realize my son's work truck was gone. It took some time for me to understand just how much was stolen. Vehicles, housing, infrastructure, tools, electronics, musical instruments, cash, and personal items. So much was taken that I could no longer work, survive, or function on the property.
After recovering from the initial shock, I concluded that it was all just stuff. Most of it can be replaced; however, what's most difficult for me now is managing the fear of being truly vulnerable. I could be robbed anywhere - but how do I feel safe again in my own home after this incident? I don't have an answer to the last question yet. However, I do know that to rebuild, I could use community assistance. That's why I created this gofundme to start. The first step is to rebuild a sense of trust and security at Blueberry Mars by adding additional security systems. The next steps will be to replace basic infrastructures such as solar power, a generator, and hot water. Replacing instruments and tools is essential to me and the culture at Blueberry Mars so that we can continue to make art and music as we've always done. If successful fundraising, I may be able to host the Spring 2022 artist residency as previously planned.
The past year I spent living on the land and hosting others has been pure joy. If you have spent time there with me, you already know how beautiful and special it can be. I do want to continue creating enchanting spaces for myself and others, be it in Antelope Valley or elsewhere. I think ultimately I would like to look for an additional piece of land in Topanga or Malibu where I can continue supporting myself and other artists in a unique off grid self-sustaining way. The ultimate goal for this gofundme is to replace what has been lost, purchase additional land, and continue my mission of creating beautiful communal environments. Feel free to reach out to me directly with donations in kind. All gifts are appreciated! If anything about my story resonates with you, please share it! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Cheers to 2022, and may we all level up in joy and abundance.
