Taylor Davis lost it all in a car accident

March 11 update: I went and visited Taylor. Great guy. Gear head. But in a lot of pain from all the surgeries. Only piece of furniture left is his bed and nightstand. Sold everything else to pay bills. Needless to say he is stressed out. We need help to give him some financial breathing room while we fix Social Security.

Hard to believe all of this? Watch the news clip below:
Taylor's story: In June 2018 my wife and I were in a car wreck that took my wife’s life and put me in a coma. While I was in the hospital in a coma, other parties wiped out my bank account. So, upon waking up from the coma, I learned that my wonderful wife of 25 years had been killed and I had no financial security. Then, I required 31 surgeries where my crushed skull, ribs and knee were repaired and where I lost half my colon and liver among other things. Every day I live in pain. And, now I am on the verge of homelessness.

I was put on disability for a while. But all that money was taken to pay medical bills. Social security administration claims I owe them almost $40,000. It may be that some entity signed me up for disability incorrectly. Meanwhile, doctors won’t release me to work so I have no easy way to earn income. Yes, you will see that $400,000 was ordered to be paid to me in restitution. Unfortunately, prisoners with no assets aren’t capable of paying restitution. So, I am on my own. Just last week my car was repossessed. Needless to say, I am in a really difficult situation and need all the help I can get. Maybe I should have asked earlier. Maybe I am too proud. But I am asking now.
Thank you and God Bless!

Added by Ted Newill, Talyor’s advisor:

Why am I involved? Because I watched my late wife battle cancer for 5 years before passing away. We had good insurance but still shelled out a couple thousand every month. Knowing the stress we felt and looking at the medical bills we were faced with, I often thought “How do other people battle severe medical situations without the safety net we had?” Fact is they don’t. 66% of all bankruptcies are due to medical crisis. It isn’t right. Taylor didn’t cause the accident. Another drive did. But Taylor is serving a life sentence of pain, suffering and financial distress.

What are the goals of this campaign?
1. First, to relieve short term financial stress. Examples are paying utility bills, rent, sundries, etc. For example, the first contributions went to pay overdue electric bills.
2. Second, to improve his connectivity. A basic mobile phone that works.
3. Third, improve Taylor’s nutrition over what food stamps can afford.
4. Third, to improve the infrastructure within which Taylor lives.
5. Fourth, to investigate the Social Security claim against Taylor. It is very suspicious and may be based on bad information.

Any help and advice is welcome. Every dollar adds up to relief.
