I Was Crossing The Road
Pet Patrol is a volunteer-run, non-profit cat rescue organization in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. All our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and any health concerns are addressed before they are available for adoption. Hi, I’m Sweet Pea, and I’ve been told I’m the nicest, sweetest cat and I didn’t deserve this. Let me tell you my story. I used to live with a big group of cats by a lumberyard, a noisy place with lots of sheds and hiding spots. Across the road, a kind lady put out food and warm shelters for us. It was a dangerous place, but it seemed like a good spot to raise my kittens—something I’ve done many times because I wasn’t spayed.
One morning, everything changed. I was crossing the road, maybe heading to the food or finding a safe spot, when it happened. A car hit me. The impact sent me tumbling, and I could feel something was very wrong. My back legs wouldn’t work, but I forced myself to drag my body into the bushes to hide. I was so scared and in so much pain.
A woman driving to work saw me. She didn’t hit me, but she saw me dragging myself and knew I needed help. I disappeared into the backyard, and for days, I hid, unsure if anyone would come for me. Then, Pet Patrol set a trap, and after a few days, they finally caught me and rushed me to the vet.
At the clinic, they discovered I can walk a little, but I’ve lost control of my bladder and bowels. I can’t pee on my own, and my bladder has to be expressed every day, which is uncomfortable and painful. The vets are hopeful that with diagnostics and acupuncture, I might regain some control and feel better.
I’ve been through so much, but I’m still full of love and hope. I dream of being comfortable, pain-free, and maybe even finding a family to love me. Will you help me heal and start a brighter chapter? Thank you for believing in me. ❤️
