I was alone on the street

Pet Patrol is a volunteer-run, non-profit cat rescue organization in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. All our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and any health concerns are addressed before they are available for adoption. Hi, my name is Leroy and I have lived outside for eight years of my life. That's my whole life! I was alone on the street and I was lucky
enough to find a horse and buggy shelter, at the side of a parking lot
attached to an industrial building. It was in a small town and I felt OK
there but the drawback is there was not much care or comfort for me. One lady showed up with a big Styrofoam cooler with straw in it, which I made my home very quickly. She tucked it in amongst the storage in the stable, so that at least I was not subjected to wind or rain, but it didn’t stop the cold.
Several years later she tricked me and hid the humane trap and I was taken to the vet to be neutered. I was so scared I acted out aggressively, and they soon returned me to where I lived
thinking I was not social at all. I was glad to be someplace familiar but realized I was no better off. Later on in the year the company tore
down the shelter and left my cooler sitting on top of the snowbank
beside the rubble. I left. It was another two months before I saw this
nice lady again as I had managed to find a feeding station
several blocks away.
I didn’t know where I was going to stay anymore and so I decided to show my friendly side, something I’d never done
before. I was rubbing up against the man's legs and rolling over on the ground and showing my belly, he put me into a carrier and took a picture and put it on social media. Very soon the woman was on her way to pick me up after seeing the post. By the next day, I was sleeping comfortably on her bed and was very happy to be inside. Because I lived outside that long without a lot of vet care, vaccines, or checkups she had asked if Pet Patrol could take me in for medical care and hopefully future adoption. I was a little nervous at the kitty vet, so I pulled myself into my caregiver's arms and curled up until they gave the results of the blood work. I’m all good. But my teeth are not. I did not want anybody to look at my mouth because it hurt so much. When they finally lifted my gums to show my back teeth you could hardly decipher what was tartar and what was tooth. The tartar coats your teeth, but also gets up under your gums and creates a lot of discomfort. Not only that but the tooth is rotting underneath. This creates a lot of pain because it often affects the pulp – ouch, ouch, ouch. I don’t have very many teeth left, no fangs and what are there are rotten. I can’t eat any hard food, I lick my lips and swallow all the time. I am just so uncomfortable, so Pet Patrol is trying to do a fundraiser to save a lovely boy like me. I am handsome although pretty rough looking right now. I love people now and I’m
so very, very happy to be inside. If you would be able to donate to an
old boy like me to make sure that my next eight years are happy,
successful, loving and healthy. It would mean the world to me.
