I survived!: The Shawn medical saga

Happy New Year! My name is Lexi and I am Shawn’s niece. I set up this gofundme to assist with paying hospital/medical bills and help keep up with his other bills.

My Uncle Shawn has been in the hospital since December 16th. He went in for what we assumed was a JUST bowel obstruction. As my mom described, he looked like he was 9 months pregnant. Turns out, there was a cancerous tumor causing a bowel obstruction. Thankfully the cancer didn’t spread ! However, his medical journey didn’t stop there. With the removal of the tumor, they took part of his colon. The healing process from the surgery has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. He has had some pretty bad days, but he is on the up and up. Right now we are focused on getting him home and continuing his care there. In the near future, he will most likely have to go back to the hospital for another surgery and he will have to have preventative chemotherapy. Fingers crossed future procedures will require short hospital stays!

We have a small family and my uncle plays a big role keeping us together. Shawn keeps us grounded and brings all the fun with him. Those who know my uncle know that he is a fun, loving guy. Off the top of my head, I don’t ever recall seeing him angry. His stature gives him a very demanding presence but let’s be honest… Shawn is the BIGGEST teddy bear. He is a kind, free spirit and loves hard. He has played a massive role in my life and has been beyond supportive. He’s gives me level headed advice and presents solutions I would have never come up with. He always lends me a listening ear and challenges me with trying to out gift me (give the best gift during the holidays. I’m a pretty good gift giver so it’s a difficult challenge) I seriously couldn’t ask for a better Uncle. ❤️
