On April 16th, I went in for a routine mammogram. On April 20th, after 15 years at the university, I lost my job and my insurance. On April 30th, I went in for three biopsies, and a few days later I found out I have breast cancer.

The cancer was detected very early and I'm feeling positive. I'm applying for some funding that's available for low income and uninsured people.

As of right now, my unemployment insurance hasn't started, and I have no money coming in but unfortunately I still need to pay my mortgage, bills, prescriptions, groceries, pet expenses, etc.

My family doesn't have any history of breast cancer, so this new medical expense has been a real shock.
