My name is Sofia Wolken and I am a Life Scout in Scouts BSA, Troop 15G located in Shaker Heights Ohio.
For my Eagle Project, I am coordinating donation drives for feminine hygiene products, bras, and underwear for an organization called I Support the Girls. I Support the Girls will distribute the collected items to local Cleveland organizations that identify girls and women experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress. This project is important to me because I want to do my part to make sure that local girls and women can obtain these products easily so that they can live free of the burden of not being able to afford these important items. The I Support the Girls website states, “A woman shouldn’t have to choose between feeding herself and her personal health. Every woman should have the ability to maintain her dignity.” I strongly believe in this mission statement.
My product drive will take place at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights on July 11&12, and in addition, I am collecting donations which will be used to purchase more products for the organization. Every dollar that is raised will go to products to be donated. You can donate with monetary donations through this GoFundMe account.
I will be leading the Scouts in my troop and our brother troop (15B) to help take the products out of people’s cars, organize them, and bring them to the organization.
The drive will be held on July 11 from 9:00am-12:00pm and on July 12th from 1:00pm-4:00pm in the parking lot of Plymouth Church, 2860 Coventry Rd, Shaker Heights, OH 44120.
During this time, I would like to make sure that everyone is safe due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, if you prefer to donate to the product drive at Plymouth church, I ask that you put the products in your trunk and in a plastic bag that can be easily taken out of your trunk by a scout. All scouts collecting the products from cars will be wearing gloves and masks and we ask you to put on a mask if you need to talk with any of the scouts.
