In September 2022, my sister Molly's life changed forever. While away in Holland enjoying the hobby we both love, (alongside the most supportive extended family - with Beeches Performing Arts DCUK and Winterguard WGUK she suddenly began having seizures. When she returned to the UK, she was admitted to Bristol Children's Hospital for a series of tests. After a long and difficult journey, she was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
Over the past four years, Molly has faced countless challenges and barriers, often with very little medical support. Every day is unpredictable. Some days she can manage well, but on others her body locks up, or she experiences multiple full drop seizures that leave her exhausted and needing complete rest.
Despite everything she has been through, Molly has never let her condition define her. I am so incredibly proud of her. This September, she will be leaving home and starting university to follow another one of her dreams. No matter what life has thrown at her, she has continued to work hard, stay determined, and never stop reaching for the stars. Her strength, courage, and resilience inspire everyone who knows her.
We have finally been given the go-ahead for Molly to have her own wheelchair, and it will make a huge difference to her daily life. Having her own set of wheels will help keep her safe on the days when walking isn't possible, giving her the freedom to get out and about when she feels able, while reducing the risk of injury after seizures. It will also help her settle into university with greater independence and confidence.
A wheelchair won't take away Molly's condition, but it will give her more freedom, comfort, and safety. It will make the hardest days that little bit easier and allow her to continue chasing her dreams.
To help raise money, I'll be taking on a personal challenge throughout August. I will be walking one mile every day, covering a total of 31 miles over the month.
For many people, that may not sound like much, but because of my own medical conditions, this will be a real challenge. There will be difficult days, but seeing everything Molly has overcome gives me the determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Every mile I walk is for my amazing sister.
If you're able to donate, no matter how big or small, we would be so incredibly grateful. Every donation will go towards helping Molly access the wheelchair and mobility equipment she needs to live as safely and independently as possible as she begins this exciting new chapter.
If, thanks to your kindness, we raise more money than is needed for Molly's wheelchair and related mobility needs, any remaining funds will be donated to a charity that supports people living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), helping others facing similar challenges.
If you're unable to donate, simply sharing Molly's story would mean the world to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for supporting my challenge, and for believing in Molly. Every donation, every share, and every word of encouragement brings us one step closer to giving her the independence, safety, and confidence she deserves.
Together, we can help Molly keep reaching for the stars. ❤️
