On Monday May 15th I lost my beautiful mother, Rosalie. She was 78 years old and in poor health. My family and I are heartbroken, but I am grateful that her pain and struggles have ended. We are planning her memorial and will be sure to let everyone know when her service will be.
It’s very difficult to be far from family at a time like this. Going forward my father will need a lot of assistance managing the household. There are a lot of uncertainties right now. One thing is clear… I need to be there with my father and to help him through this transition in our lives.
There are so many things that need to be addressed, it feels overwhelming, as I am sure many of you know from your own experience.
As most of you know, I live and work in Los Angeles. My family is in Delaware… 2,750 miles away. It’s not just a question of flying in and flying out. I’m going to need to clear my schedule and spend time with my dad at the family home.
Family emergencies never come at a good time. I’m fortunate that my small business survived the pandemic and that I can support myself working in the arts, but I’m just not at a place right now where I can take this time to help my dad and keep things afloat here.
I’m asking all of you, friends, family, and colleagues to please help if you can. I need funds to travel, to help with my mother’s final expenses and to be able to take a few weeks off from my work here. It’s never easy to ask for assistance. To say the words “I need help”. But I do. I need your help. Please do what you can. I’m truly grateful.
