I making my first feature doc and I need a "likkle" help

Hey there,

If you're reading this, you probably already know me. And if you don’t, let me introduce myself. I’m Orion Gordon, a filmmaker, sound engineer, and someone who’s obsessed with stories that move people.

Right now, I’m deep in the process of making a feature-length documentary about Jeanine De Bique, an extraordinary opera singer from Trinidad and Tobago whose voice and journey are nothing short of transformative.

This September, I’m heading to Trinidad and Tobago to film a vital chapter of this story: Jeanine’s roots. This is where it all began — the land, the people, the cultural richness that shaped her artistry and resilience. Capturing this part of her journey is essential to completing the film with depth, authenticity, and heart.

But I can’t do it alone.

To film in Trinidad and Tobago this September, I’m raising funds to help cover:

  • Travel expenses (NYC to Trinidad and back for myself and crew)
  • Crew support (local camera and sound team, production assistants)
  • Lodging and meals during production
  • Production costs (equipment rental, transportation, location fees)

Every dollar helps. Your contribution will go directly toward making this shoot happen and ensuring the story is told with the care, creativity, and cultural nuance it deserves.

Momentum Is Building!
The project is already gaining recognition — a short version of the film has been accepted into multiple film festivals, including the prestigious Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival this September. That means we’ll be screening in the very country where Jeanine’s story begins, and filming at the same time. Fun!

Why This Story Matters
Jeanine’s journey — from a small village in Trinidad to the world’s greatest opera stages — is a story of brilliance, perseverance, and cultural pride. It bridges Caribbean roots with European classical traditions, challenging ideas about who belongs on elite stages and how powerfully Black and Caribbean voices can rise.

This film isn’t just about opera. It’s about home. It’s about dreams. It’s about representation.

Whether you can give $10 or $100, your support means the world. And if you can’t contribute financially, sharing this campaign with your network would be an incredible help.

Trinbago to the World!

Thank you so much,
Orion Gordon
