Honouring the life of Mia Stevandic

It is with heavy hearts and unimaginable sadness, that we share the heartbreaking news that Mia Stevandic, just 25 years old, unexpectedly passed away on March 5, 2026. Her sudden passing has left her loving family–her mother Stela, father Srdjan, brother Luka and his partner Emily–along with countless family, friends, neighbours, and community members, devastated by this unimaginable loss.

Mia was the kind of person who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Bright, brilliant, and endlessly curious, she moved through the world with a rare combination of intelligence, warmth, and openness that made people feel instantly at ease in her presence.
A lifelong athlete, Mia grew up skiing, playing hockey, tennis and soccer, and went on to make the varsity team during her time at university.
She graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, with minors in Biology and Psychology. Even while completing a demanding academic program, Mia filled her time with meaningful work across campus, contributing to Student Affairs, Alumni Relations, and projects with Laurier’s Social Inclusion and Health Equity Research Group. Mia had a remarkable mind and an incredible drive to learn.

Those close to her often joked that she could do anything she set her mind to, which included both the MCAT and the LSAT. Yet, what people remember most was not just her intelligence, but how she used it with humility, curiosity, and a genuine desire to make the world better.
She cared deeply about having a positive impact on the people and communities around her. Mia approached life with empathy, openness, and an adventurous spirit that drew people in. She had a way of making others feel comfortable, valued, and understood, and her energy brought light and warmth to every room she entered.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Mia understands just how bright, special, and unforgettable she was. Her loss is deeply felt by family, friends, and the many communities she touched.
In honour of Mia’s life, a fundraiser has been created to support Mia’s family during this incredibly difficult time, and to carry forward the love, generosity, and spirit that defined her.

In the future, the family hopes to establish an annual charitable soccer tournament in Mia’s memory, bringing together family, friends, and the community to celebrate her love of the game while raising funds for causes that were close to her heart. Mia’s kindness, energy, and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten. Though her time with us was far too short, the impact she made will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. May Mia rest in peace.
