I HAVE MORE TO GIVE AND I NEED YOUR HELP

Please meet FRIENDLY DRAGON – the 10yo retired thoroughbred gelding. 

 Race fans will remember this fellow. He dedicated a decade of his life to the QLD racing industry with a whopping 83 races under his belt and still winning four races towards the end of his long career -
Now that takes heart.

 Retiring in August 2020, Friendly Dragon was later moved on from his original home due to financial reasons and placed in the care of a re-homer. Sadly due to comments that Friendly Dragon is “plain”, “too old”, “un-educated”, “a windsucker”, they have been unable to find a suitable match and forever home.

 At Transitioning Thoroughbreds Foundation (TTF) we believe in nurturing horses to be the best they can be no matter what happened in the past.  We would love to provide Friendly Dragon a spot at TTF where he would receive 3 months of intensive professional re-training, all vet care, feed, farrier etc.  Towards the end of his re-training program our re-trainer will be able to identify his strengths and subsequently be able to match Friendly Dragon to the most suited owner and home. The foundation will trace him for life so there is no risk of him ending up in a position where his welfare is not adequate or at worse he ends up in a slaughter house.

 Friendly Dragon gave so much to the industry he was born into and deserves a second chance at life. TTF can help him find his hooves in a new career path or job.

 TTF has been established less than a year and there have been many challenges getting off the ground. At this stage we don’t have industry financial support and many owners and trainers are reluctant or unable to contribute to horses just like Friendly Dragon for assessment and re-training. We believe TTF’s role in the Thoroughbred Race industry is to mitigate retired racehorses exchanging hands multiple times post retirement which can lead to these horses becoming untraceable. We want to prepare these horses’ for a happy and healthy post track career and life.
