After 17 years apart, I finally have my mom back—but she’s fighting for her life.

My mom is battling irreversible stage 5 kidney disease and is currently on dialysis while we wait and pray for a kidney donor match as her only treatment option. This fight is especially heartbreaking because in 2017 we lost my grandmother to kidney failure. During that difficult time, my mom was her primary caregiver—showing strength, compassion, and unconditional love even as she watched her own mother struggle with the same illness she now faces. For those who know, I was recently reunited with my mom a little over a year ago after 17 long years apart, and the thought of losing her now is unimaginable.

My mom is a proud grandmother of three, and nothing makes her happier than being present in their lives, watching them grow, and sharing her love with them. She is selfless, resilient, and always puts others before herself. Living in Mexico without access to medical insurance and unable to work, she depends fully on her children for support. The costs of ongoing dialysis, travel to medical appointments, and ultimately a kidney transplant and recovery are overwhelming for us to carry alone. We are asking for help to give our mom the chance she deserves to continue being the caring, strong woman who has touched so many lives. Any contribution, no matter the size, will bring us closer to giving her the gift of health and more precious time with her family.

We’re raising $12,000 to support the funds we are trying to send monthly to cover medical costs.

$1,000/month - dialysis kits and administration of treatment

$500/month - supporting medication, medical care & transportation to appointments with support

$8k - $15k one time cost - at this point, we’ve been told by my mom’s medical team that a standard kidney transplant is $15k but they will work with us to get the cost down to an estimated $8k. This cost would come out of pocket because of my mom’s situation with medical insurance access.

Después de 17 años separados, finalmente tengo a mi mamá de vuelta, pero está luchando por su vida.

Mi mamá está luchando contra una enfermedad renal irreversible en etapa 5 y actualmente está en diálisis mientras esperamos y rezamos por un donante de riñón, que es su única opción de tratamiento. Esta lucha es especialmente desgarradora porque, en 2017, perdimos a mi abuela por insuficiencia renal. Durante ese tiempo, mi mamá fue su cuidadora principal, mostrando fuerza, compasión y amor incondicional, incluso mientras veía a su propia madre sufrir de la misma enfermedad que ahora enfrenta.

Para quienes lo saben, me reuní con mi mamá hace poco más de un año después de 17 largos años separadas. La idea de perderla ahora es inimaginable.

Mi mamá es una orgullosa abuela y nada la hace más feliz que estar presente en la vida de su familia, verlos crecer y compartir su amor con ellos. Es desinteresada, resiliente y siempre pone a los demás antes que a ella misma. Pero viviendo en México sin acceso a seguro médico y sin poder trabajar, depende completamente de sus hijos para apoyarla.

Los costos de la diálisis continua, los traslados a citas médicas y, eventualmente, un trasplante de riñón y la recuperación son abrumadores para nosotros solos. Estamos pidiendo ayuda para darle a mi mamá la oportunidad que merece: seguir siendo la mujer fuerte y cariñosa que ha tocado tantas vidas.
