I’m here because I barely made it out alive.

A couple nights ago, I was driving home late when my truck suddenly started failing. My brake lines gave out completely, I had no brakes for the last mile to my house. I did everything I could to stay calm and keep control, coasting through intersections just trying to make it somewhere safe. Then it got worse.

Out of nowhere, I saw bright orange flames coming through my dashboard vents. Smoke started pouring into the cab while I was still driving. Leaving me seconds to react. I slammed my emergency brake and jumped out. I tried to pop the hood to stop the fire, but the latch cable had already melted. There was nothing I could do. I ran back into the truck, which was already filling with thick smoke, and grabbed the only things I could, my wallet and house keys. In the chaos, I inhaled smoke just trying to get out in time. The moment I got across the street, the truck started popping loudly and the flames doubled in size. Within 3-4 minutes, it was completely engulfed.

Everything was gone.

I’m incredibly grateful to be alive because honestly, I shouldn’t be. This could have ended in a crash, or worse. Now I’m left without a vehicle and trying to recover from something that happened in a matter of 3-4 minutes.

I rely on my truck for daily life and to help others. I coach wrestling at Roseville High School, I also wrestle, work, and will be starting welding classes soon, and my truck was my pride and joy being part of UNIDOS916 truck club. I frequently used my truck to help my family and others when they needed it and replacing it isn’t something I can manage on my own right now. I only had liability insurance sadly but going forward I will be sure to get better coverage.
