I don’t get out of bed for less than $900 a day.

TL;DR – I need this thing to stand up. You got a couple bucks you can front me?

The Thrilling Backstory

I’m a middle-aged woman who’s had MS for twenty years, and I’ve gradually become disabled to the point that I can’t stand up on my own or get myself out of bed and into my wheelchair. This means my long-suffering husband – a middle-aged man with a bad back – has to basically deadlift me (and I’ve got to weigh at least a buck sixty) and drop me into my wheelchair.

Is this arrangement physically comfortable for either of us? Reader, it is not.

When my husband is in too much pain to lift me out of bed, I can’t get out of bed. If he throws his back out for a week, I have be bed-bound for a week. If his back goes bad on us permanently, I’ll be bed-bound permanently.

This thing – a manual sit-to-stand lift – will not only give us a reliable way to get me up without further wrecking our bodies, but it will be a huge help with physical therapy. It will allow me to show our little girl what I look like standing up. It will let my dad give me a hug without having to stoop so low his joints crack. It costs about $900 with all the parts I need. If you’ve got the means and will to help us get it, I can’t thank you enough for helping.

“Do you have health insurance?”

Yes!

“Well, have you tried getting your health insurance to cover this?”

Yes! In November of last year! And they’ve repeatedly reassured me that they’re totes trying super hard to find a medical supply company that has one in stock, but they totes can’t! And when I told them they could order it from Amazon, they said that Amazon isn’t a medical supply company! And when I told them that a medical supply company could order it from Amazon, they said that they can’t tell a medical supply company where to order items from! And when I told them I could order it from Amazon and they could reimburse me, they said that patients were not allowed to order their own medical equipment! But they just need a few more months, probably! Or not, because they’re just not sure! Call us again sometime in March!

“That’s a lot of exclamation points. Are you okay?”

My bad. I should know better than to punctuate angry.

“Alright, alright. Say I do help. What’s in it for me?”

Not only will you have my everlasting gratitude, as well as that of my entire exhausted household, you’ll be providing the whole world with proof positive that you are, indeed, the incredible person I know you to be, whether I know you or not. You’ll probably get to wipe off at least a few minor sins (theological benefits of donation not guaranteed).

If you can help, thank you. If you can’t help but you were nice enough to wade through all this text, thank you. Tom Brady still sucks. Thank you, thank you.
