I can’t do this alone. I need your help to regain my smile

No one should have to hide their smile, but I do. I have trained myself to speak without showing my teeth, to cover my mouth when I laugh, and to look down when I talk so that no one sees the damage.

My smile was not destroyed because of neglect, poor hygiene, or harmful choices. It was taken from me because of the very medication that allows me to live a healthy and stable life.

In my 30s I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, a serious hereditary illness that affects mood with episodes of deep depression and extreme mania. After years of trial and error, Lithium was the only treatment that truly stabilized me and gave me the ability to build a successful and balanced life.

Lithium works by helping regulate the brain’s neurotransmitters which stabilizes mood, but it also has long-term effects on oral health. Over the years it has caused chronic dry mouth (xerostomia), gingivitis, inflammation, and severe tooth decay. Saliva is essential to protecting teeth. It neutralizes acids, provides minerals that strengthen enamel, and washes away food particles. Without saliva, teeth weaken, demineralize, and break down quickly, no matter how carefully you brush or floss.

Even though I take care of myself, follow my treatment plan, and have remained faithful to my prescription, my teeth have paid the price. My self-care and my stability came with the cost of losing my smile.

I am now at the point where full dental reconstruction is necessary. This is not only about restoring my appearance, it is about being able to eat without pain, speak with confidence, and finally laugh without hiding.

My goal is to raise $15,000 towards my smile journey. This will help cover anesthesia, surgery with full extractions, and dentures. It is a number I cannot reach on my own, which is why I am asking for your help.

Every donation, no matter the size, brings me closer to smiling again. With your support I can take back what my illness and treatment have taken from me and move forward with health, confidence, and joy.

I want to help end the stigma surrounding mental health, and work to create awareness and compassion for those facing mental health challenges.
