COLD LIGHT LASER THERAPY — HELP AVERY SEE MORE CLEARLY
My name is Avery. I'm a spunky, tenacious woman who lives with global dystonia, a speech disorder, and cortical vision impairment (CVI) resulting from an anoxic brain injury. I hold a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and today I have my dream job: developing STEM products for blind and low vision youth at the American Printing House for the Blind.
If you've supported me before — thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because of you, I can read again. My vision has improved from 20/400 in my worse eye and 20/150 in my better eye, all the way to 20/60 in both eyes. That is not a small miracle. That is your impact.
Now I'm asking for your help to take the next step.
What I need — and why
In 2025, two of my healthcare providers independently recommended cold light laser therapy (CLLT): my speech therapist for my chronic TMJ disorder, and my vision therapist to continue healing the brain injury that causes my CVI. What makes CVI unique among vision impairments is that it can improve over time — and mine has. CLLT is my best current path to more fluent, migraine-free reading and greater independence in the job I love.
The specific device my medical team recommends is the Avant LZ30 Pro — it emits the right wattage and frequencies for my needs, comes with pre-programmed settings and accessible controls I can operate independently, and has the strongest peer-reviewed research behind it. It's also the laser I've already used successfully in vision therapy sessions.
Why I can't just continue those sessions: vision therapy is not covered by my insurance. I've been supported by a wonderful Kentucky program called the Kentucky Brain Trust, but I've nearly reached their lifetime maximum. I need a device of my own for daily, at-home use.
The numbers
The Avant LZ30 Pro costs $7,200 from a vetted pre-owned vendor.
• My contribution: $1,000
• My father's generous gift: $1,650
• Amount still needed: $4,550
Every dollar brings me closer to reading without daily migraines, to showing up fully for blind and low vision students, and to a future I am actively building — one treatment at a time.
If you have questions, please contact me through GoFundMe.
Thank you for believing in what's possible. I know I can make a difference in this world — and with your help, I'll be able to see it more clearly.
