I C U Thru Lightning Music Video

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Deidre Locklear. I am a filmmaker living in Oakland, California.

2015 was a year that changed my heart. I started dating a wonderful friend and colleague, and was in my last year of college.

In our music video class, we were urged to collaborate. When Matthew told me about a local artist named Dave Deporis, and asked for my help in crafting a music video for the song “Toilets ,” I absolutely wanted to jump on board.

I met Dave, who was a whirlwind of a human. His tousled hair and quirky demeanor, in combination with his unique voice and eloquent poetry, indicated just how special he was. We spent a few days shooting the video and then went to see some of Dave's live performances, which were incredibly special. Small, tear-filled audiences led to loving new friendships. The last time I saw Dave, he played one of the most intimate parties I’ve ever been to.

In 2017, Dave was killed in Oakland in a heartbreaking way. He was such a pure and beautifully creative soul, hearing of his death shook me to the core. To this day, I think of him often. That is what has brought me here, and leaves me asking for your help.

I will be directing a music video set to Dave Deporis' song "I C U Thru Lightning!!!" and will be collaborating with a team of wonderful friends and filmmakers in the bay area.  At Dave's memorial, I heard this song performed by Diane Cluck, with dance accompaniment from Soleil Chappelle. I was touched by its power and truly saddened, but then I realized that I couldn't stay sad about something some so beautiful. This moment helped me reconcile with the fact that Dave's physical form was gone. His message will live forever.

My concept for the video is a dance film involving two humans experiencing what it means to truly desire connection. The movements are childlike in nature, but bold in structure. The film will be choreographed by Soleil, a local dancer, artist, and friend of Dave and myself.

Our Cinematographer is Andy Hoffman, another dear friend and respected filmmaker living in Oakland.

I hope to raise $3,000 to create this video. That money would feed the crew, fund the gear, pay for the dance floor material, supply costumes, and support location fees. We will be utilizing a lot of our own resources, but art takes funding, so I am reaching out to the loving community of friends, family, filmmakers, and music lovers to achieve this goal.

Our shoot dates are set for the weekend of April 20th. I will be providing updates of our progress throughout the production via loving words, doodles, inspirational references, and I will share some behind the scenes content from the making of the video.

Dave's music is momentous. His words are raw and pure regarding love, the earth, what it means to feel, what it means to live, and also what it means to die. I feel that as an artist, it is my duty to create art that moves people and inspires them. Dave moves and inspires me, and I want to take that and spread it. I have the power to create, and I will use my powers to make something beautiful for Dave. I want to offer this music video as a gift to Dave's friends, family, and loved ones in his memory.

Here is the song: Please take a listen, it's beautiful. I C U Thru Lightning!!!

Thank you for reading this, thank you for considering donating. I love you.

((One more note:

This project is fully authorized by the estate of Dave Deporis but is being independently undertaken and funded. We would like to assure those who donated to the prior campaign to help fund official releases of Dave’s albums that those funds are still being utilized for that purpose. ))
