In remembrance of: Adonius Joshua Johnson II (1997-2020)
Joshua himself was a beautiful child and gift from God; who suffered from mental illness. After a courageous and long battle, Joshua’s pain became unbearable. He will always be remembered for his bright smile, warm hugs, and close bond that he shared with his family. His strength, and the courage he showed in fighting his illness, inspires us all.
Suicide is a whispered word, inappropriate for polite company. Family and friends often pretend they do not hear the word, and dread the sound even when it is uttered. Suicide is a taboo subject that stigmatizes not only the victim but the survivors as well.
Joshua was working on finding his way to self-improvement and healing. The journey to a well-balanced state of mental health is a long path. It calls for self-reflection, and moves you closer to a position of redefining your views. It requires changing your outlook on life, as well as dismantling your destructive behavioral patterns. Once we are able to recognize the areas in our lives that are destructive, self-manifestation of the renewed mind can begin. The rebirth of the mind and acceptance of Christ allows each of us to be born again. This is a path chosen by few.
In honor of the light of this beautiful soul, Adonius Joshua Johnson II, we are opening a door to a path of transformation for many others to overcome mental illness. We can all help to be a positive force in the prevention of suicide by not ignoring mental illness.
