I Am in Rough Shape

Hi, my name is Landis and I am probably one of the luckiest cats in the world. I

was rescued from a slow and agonizing death. I came from a farm with nine

of my colony-mates where a Pet Patrol volunteer had found some kittens huddled

together in the middle of the lawn. On that day it was 30°! That kind of

scorching heat pounding down on kittens is not good. The volunteer was

appalled and asked if she could rescue the kittens. The people who owned

the farm reluctantly agreed and eventually five kittens and four adults came

into care, including me. All of my colony mates are under 18 months old, and

just about all of us need to have rotten teeth removed, as well as vet care,

better food. vaccines, deworming and to be spayed or neutered. The icky

part is that we were all covered in lice. Ewww! But easily treated. I was by far

the most in need of medical care. I had lesions on my tongue (big canker

sores), stomatitis (my gums were terribly inflamed and looked like raw hamburger), and all my teeth have to be extracted...every one! I am underweight,

have a cold and my coat is filthy and dull. As soon as I arrived at Pet

Patrol, I got a bath – boy, that felt good! Now the vet visits and medications

have started and I will need this support for many, many months to regain my

health. With pain medication I can finally eat and will gain much needed

weight because at not quite two years old I only weigh four pounds! My

growth is stunted because of the malnutrition from the beginning of my life

living on that property. I am really a sweet cat and I would like to be fun loving

and care free, but life has been just about daily survival until now. I am

hoping my future plans include the comforts of couches, the perfection of

napping in a puddle of sunshine and living with a family that will love me forever and keep me inside. But before I can do that, I need your help to get
