My name is Cory, I am a textile artist who offers sliding scale to adult and child students, and my primary source of income is making memorial quilts for the families of those who have passed, which is also offered on a donation or sliding-scale basis. I have given almost 200 hours to volunteering at my local library the last few years, and I do weekly volunteer work with local mutual aid groups in DC.

My cat, Hallie, has been my best friend, love of my life and little baby for the last 7 years. She is now 15, and after almost $5,000 in medical bills, she was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma. I did not have the funds (or the stomach) to put her through chemotherapy, so she has been on steroids for the last two months. Unfortunately, I will have to put her down next week.

I am drowning in medical debt from her initial tests, medicine, and currently don’t know how to pay for her necessary euthanasia. The fundraising goal is the combined total of her medicine, tests & diagnostics, euthanasia, and posthumous body processing. I have no regrets about seeking medical care for her, as it was a necessity to know concretely what her health was like to have all the information available to make the decision that would have her life the longest, and healthiest life possible, without suffering. It is unfortunate that the conclusion of this situation, is that I am several thousand dollars in debt, and my little baby will still die.

There’s a lot of crazy things going on in the world, and there are probably better places to put your money. I feel conflicted even making this gofundme, but I don’t know what else to do.
