I am Disabled and Need Help Staying Housed

Hello,

My name is Raeya Sunshine and i am 26, almost 27, and I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis at 24 years old when i was in the ER with two, 4cm ovarian cysts which resulted in me losing my right ovary. (they were both 6-8cm when they were removed)

for those who don’t know, endometriosis is a disease where tissue, which is only meant to be found in the uterus, grows outside of the uterus and anywhere in the body. this disease causes severe pain and cramping during periods bc the tissue that’s developed outside of the uterus, wants to shed like a uterus would during a period, cannot, and inflammation and cramping basically takes over. if you want to know more about endometriosis you can find more info here: https://womenshealth.gov/a-z-topics/endometriosis

In November of 2024, I was diagnosed again with a 5cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary. The gyno/surgen I was seeing was planning to do surgery to remove the cyst, however I was forced to take birth control first and was given the depo-prevera shot. In the first 3 weeks of being on the shot, my cyst ruptured. I had been in so much pain a few days before it ruptured, but i had been going through so much i didn’t take it as an emergency. I was in a movie theater bathroom when I realized it had come out on my tampon. I went to the hospital a few days later and the doctors AT PROVIDENCE HOSPITAL IN PORTLAND, OREGON, said “¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we see your cyst is gone and you’re bleeding but we don’t know what to do, here are some highly addictive pain meds!”

after that, i had a follow up with the gyno (WHO ALSO WORKS IN PROVIDENCE) who then proceeded to tell me i was bleeding out and just to keep taking my meds. I don’t know if if any of you have internally bled before, but basically the organs absorb the blood and that in of itself, is a 10/10 painful experience, highly don’t recommend. Unfortunately, i believe the lack of care and the amount of negligence i experienced, caused my disease to spread to my nerves as i’ve been now suffering from sciatic endometriosis. this is when the tissue implants itself on the nerve. and endometriosis can grow anywhere.

all of this while trying to work part time as a dishwasher was still a lot of my body to handle. standing and moving my body as much as i had was excruciating and after calling out as much as i was, i was fired from my job, 4 days before Christmas. all of these hardships were all within two months.

I have been to the hospital at least 5-6 times in the last three months because of this disease. all, in which, were stressful and disappointing to say the least.

The only way i was able to pay for February rent was by the luck of my hand and begging my mother, who works full time and who still takes care of my younger siblings, for help with rent and some help from my friends.

i’m asking for help with getting my rent paid for the rest of the year because i cannot work a regular job. I’ve applied for disability but i still have months and months, maybe a whole year (or not at all by the state of this country) before i can get the money from that. My rent is $440 + about $50- $60 in utilities im relying on community to help and support me through this time while i’m also trying to fund my art career.

i am currently working towards getting booked for markets and events to sell my art but i need extra funds to help get what i need for these events. i am living out of these funds as my income, is relying on the kindness of other.

i am a jack of all trades artist in training and that starts anywhere from photography to sewing. i make digital art that i would love to make into prints/stickers and stationery. i have a passion for fashion and would really like to make clothes soon. i also have painted over 20 original pieces that i would love to see in a gallery some day.

if you don’t have money to send, please please PLEASE do the free part and share my story so it can get to others who can!! even a $1 helps. i am chronically ill from this disease and absolutely need the help from empathetic people. i am begging as this is my last resort.

pls feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @sunshinesroom if you have any questions.
