Heaven Knows- A Short Film Production

Hi everyone, I am a part of Group 3, studying the award winning course BA (Hons) in Film and TV Production at the University of Hertfordshire.

We are hoping to raise money to plan, shoot and edit our final year short film, Heaven Knows. Any donations will be greatly appreciated, and will be spent on actors, locations, props, clothing, transportation, and catering.

Synopsis:

‘Heaven Knows' is a story of star-crossed lovers who find themselves in the midst of the Troubles in Republican Ireland. When a Catholic girl happens upon a Protestant boy, music binds their love - but the broader implications of what their love could mean test what they know of their world, and how far their families will go to see love's battle lost.

While stories like 'Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘West Side Story’ have families and gangs pulling lovers apart, it is entire nations and a sectarian divide religious sects trying to prevent true love from blossoming. This raises the stakes beyond a traditional love story to one where all manner of morals and obligations to looming threats more insurmountable than before. ‘Heaven Knows’ is a story you know with a twist you don’t, where every aspect of the story feels torn out of the pages of history - oozing with romance, drama and danger…

Director's Vision- Alexander Campbell:

My vision for the film is one where an immersive story is told both in the script as well as what is on the screen. Colour is a key element of our story, with key colours being elevated, and shadows being used as a visual representation of the threat and danger facing people in their narratives. Historical context is instrumental to the world we are creating, and the importance of Cathal cements our story as one transpiring in a dangerous place in time. Furthermore, it is important we portray the real events of The Troubles sensitively and as apolitically as we can.
