Help Charles Fight Cancer

Hello everyone. This fundraiser is for our good friend, Charles Short who has been diagnosed with 2 types of cancer. He has been diagnosed with a “Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma, Grade 1” tumor on his left kidney and has “Adenocarcinoma Esophageal Cancer” tumors that are completely blocking his esophagus, which has possibly metastasized tumors to the liver and is creating necrotic lymph nodes in his upper body.

 

Charles was admitted to the University Medical Center Oncology Department for the second time on October 9, 2021 due to not being able to swallow solid food after having issues since August. After two CT scans (one with contrast), three EGD (esophagus scope) esophagus, kidney and liver biopsies, here we are.

 

The current treatment plan is for feeding tube and chemo ports to be place so he can get much needed nutrients and to start chemo right away. The hope is that the chemo will shrink the tumors so to avoid an invasive surgery. Charles has an excellent oncology team and surgical team. All the staff has been so great to him.

 

Charles will have chemo treatments every two weeks, for three days at a time. His chemo will last 3 to 6 months depending on how well it is working and what side effects he might have. He will be fed thru his feeding tube until such time he can possible start eating food.

 

Charles is an amazing husband, father, and friend. Many of you know of his community involvement. Charles is one of those men who doesn't think twice to lend you a hand or the shirt off his back.

 

 

Charles spirits are high, and he is a fighter but it’s going to be a long road. He appreciates the outpouring of love, encouragement, and support everyone has sent his way.
